You can load it to WXtoIMG (File->Open audio file) and check different enhancement settings. NOAA sends two pictures – one in visible range, and one in infra-red.Īnd here is my recording of NOAA19 pass, 10:54UTC. For example – the first and second pictures are from the same transmission, but the second one is in infra-red – it shows temperature. This is how my desktop looks like while receiving NOAA:Īnd those are pictures that I’ve received today:Īfter receiving sth have a look at “Enhancements” menu in WXtoIMG, you can make different types of pictures. But it was observed that there was some difference in the satellite pass prediction times in Orbitron and WXtoImg. Hello folks, I am trying to get satellite weather images, and am using RTL-SDR along with Orbitron and WXtoImg, as mentioned here. You can listen to the track you’re currently recording by setting Edit->Preferences->Recording->Software Playthrough. Difference in satellite pass timings in Orbitron and WXtoImg. If you want (as I said – it’s not required) just start it, select VAC line and start recording. There’s not too much to say about Audacity. By pressing ctrl+1 and ctrl+2 you can switch between map and radar view. If you want do that manually press Alt+F5, select “TLE Updater” tab, and click on the icon with earth and thunder.
WXTOIMG AND ORBITRON UPDATE
In this software you should update your Keplers too – it asks you to that if they are older than 30 days. In visualisation tab (on the bottom) you can choose if you want to see track of satellite, tracks of all satellites, visibility range etc.
WXTOIMG AND ORBITRON INSTALL
Just install it and run, click “Load TLE” on the right, select “Weather.tle”, and select NOAA15, 17, 18 and 19 on the list. I also use Orbitron for tracking satellite, which is quite important for me because I’m using DK7ZB 4-element Yagi antenna. WXtoIMG will wait until satellite pass (so it’s VERY important to have correct time and date). Now just start SDR, and in WXtoIMG press File->Record->Auto record. If you won’t everything should work correctly, but you won’t be able to hear signal – and it’s good to be able to, so you can adjust your antenna (especially if you’re using directional antenna).
WXTOIMG AND ORBITRON WINDOWS
You can set it in either in Windows “Recording devices” or in Audacity. The last thing you have to do is to make VAC line be heard out of speakers. Also set “maximum elevation above” and “record only when satellite is above” to small values, so it will start recording satellite when it will be a bit above horizon. Now go to Options->Recording options and check if wxtoimg is set to record VAC line. First of all – update your Keplers – otherwise wxtoimg won’t know where the sats are (it should ask you to do that if Keplers are too old, but I do that manually once a week or so). In Audio section set output to VAC line, and turn off filter. Start SDR#, set it for FM modulation with 36kHz bandwidth (APT is 34kHz, but because of the Doppler effect I set it to 36kHz), turn the squelch off.
WXTOIMG AND ORBITRON FULL
Free version puts watermark (female voice) every few seconds into the stream, so it’s better to have full version. Just install it, it will be set by default.

Audacity (not required, I’m using it as a backup recorder, if wxtoimg would crash).Virtual Audio Cable (not sure if required, but I used it).For now – just ask me if you have any question. There will be more detailed info about configuration of WXtoIMG/Virtual Audio Cable/whatever, I will also add videos.
